Awards and Distinctions

Our journey has been recognized and awarded many times. These innovation awards helped fund the launch of this great adventure, and we are very grateful for their support.

Our History

eSMART is a company founded in 2011, stemming from the “Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). We develop smart management systems for your home or workplace. Available locally or remotely, they offer you the ability to know where, when and how you consume energy” and provide the necessary tools to reduce it.

2024

eSMART Moves into New Offices in Renens

The year 2024 marks a key moment in eSMART’s evolution: our move to new premises, located in the prestigious UBS building in Renens, Avenue des Baumettes 23. This relocation symbolizes much more than a simple change of address: it embodies a new era of growth and innovation for our company.

Since its inception, eSMART has consistently demonstrated boldness and vision by developing smart solutions for sustainable energy management in buildings. Thanks to a dedicated team and trusted partners, we have transformed our ambition into reality, revolutionizing how users interact with their homes.

Our new premises reflect this dynamic: a work environment that matches our technological and human commitment, designed to stimulate creativity, encourage synergies, and support our future projects. This space becomes a hub for collaboration and excellence, aligned with our mission: building the connected home of tomorrow.

2021

eSMART Celebrates its 10th Anniversary!

November 24, 2021, marks eSMART’s 10th anniversary. The perfect time to look back and retrace the journey.
Founded in 2011, eSMART has transformed from a startup originating from the laboratories of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) into the Swiss Leader in sustainable and connected living, thanks to a mini module that installs behind light switches. This small device allows a wall-mounted touchscreen to communicate with building functions such as video intercom, heating, lighting, or blinds via the existing electrical network.

2016

eSMART Makes Great Strides

eSMART in 2016:

  • 12 awards and distinctions
  • 1,550 apartments equipped with the eSMART solution
  • 35 new or old homes equipped with the eSMART solution
  • 39 offices and commercial spaces equipped with the eSMART solution
  • 2 hotels equipped with the eSMART solution
  • 8 showrooms

If eSMART has been able to grow since its creation in 2011, it is thanks to its main strength: its people. It is therefore important for eSMART to thank all its employees for their daily commitment to the success and development of the company.

2013

Eikenott, our First Major Turning Point

In 2013, eSMART reached a major milestone in its development by participating in Eikenott, the first eco-district of La Côte, located in the city of Gland – labeled “Energy City” for its commitment to a sustainable energy policy.

This large-scale project, supported by renowned investors such as UBS, SUVA, SwissCanto, La Vaudoise, La Mobilière, and others, represents a decisive milestone for eSMART. Our technology equips 230 homes in the district, affirming our position as a key player in the energy transition within the real estate sector.

This foundational project marked the beginning of our involvement in ambitious endeavors, placing energy intelligence at the heart of tomorrow’s living spaces.

2009

The Adventure Begins

eSMART started in 2009 when Fabrizio Lo Conte and Laurent Fabre, then doctoral students at EPFL, identified that while automated home management was advanced, it was only accessible to new constructions and remained largely unaffordable.

The challenge was set: to create a building automation technology that was simple, accessible, and pleasant to use.

The first installation was carried out in the same year, 2009, at EPFL, where the spin-off was commissioned to help visualize the energy consumption of an entire floor of a building.

The project then made headlines in specialized journals, and eSMART was contacted by a major player in Swiss construction, the company Losinger-Marazzi, an entity of the multinational Bouygues (133,456 employees in 80 countries).
