RS485 is an established interface for data transmission. Complex devices such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems can be integrated and controlled in our clients’ residential projects, offering significant advantages such as reliable data transmission over long distances, enabling fast integration with our eSMART solutions for home management and energy monitoring.

eSMART has already had the opportunity of including this product in a real estate project in Bucharest, thanks to our team in Romania (see article eSMART expands in Romania), in order to achieve more optimal air conditioning system control.

What is the Minergie Standard?

Minergie is a Swiss label that certifies buildings meeting strict criteria for energy efficiency, comfort, and indoor air quality. The standard was established in 1998 to encourage the construction of low-energy consumption buildings while ensuring a high level of comfort for occupants. Minergie buildings aim to reduce energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and heating costs while providing a healthy and pleasant indoor environment.

eSMART as an Energy Monitoring Solution Provider

Founded in 2011, eSMART equipped the first Eco-Quartier in French-speaking Switzerland with a multifluid energy monitoring solution, including hot water, cold water, heating, and electricity.

Monitoring for improvement is what the concept of Minergie Monitoring describes. More broadly, Minergie Monitoring is an extension of the Minergie standard aimed at ensuring that certified buildings maintain their energy performance over time, after their completion. Our solutions are among the self-declared providers of Minergie Monitoring solutions, as we offer systems that enable continuous monitoring of energy consumption data and also help identify any deviations from set goals and take corrective actions if necessary.

Minergie P-Eco: Toward More Eco-Friendly Construction

Minergie P-Eco is an evolution of the Minergie standard that places a greater emphasis on the overall sustainability of the building. In addition to energy efficiency criteria, Minergie P-Eco incorporates broader environmental considerations such as the choice of construction materials, water management, and biodiversity. This standard aims to promote holistic construction and minimize environmental impact throughout the building’s lifecycle.

The Minergie standard is an essential reference for the construction of energy-efficient buildings in Switzerland and beyond. Thanks to its key principles focused on energy efficiency, comfort, and indoor air quality, Minergie contributes to reducing CO2 emissions and preserving natural resources. With extensions such as Minergie Monitoring certification, we aim to highlight current sustainability and energy efficiency challenges in the construction sector.

At eSMART, our goal is to achieve Minergie Monitoring certification because we firmly believe that stakeholders in the construction and building industry must act with a sustainable vision. That’s why we support construction and real estate companies in taking this step towards a more responsible future. The eSMART solution allows, throughout the entire lifecycle of the building, not only during construction but also during its operational phase, to monitor the energy consumption of the building and take appropriate measures to reduce it. While the Minergie P-Eco standard ensures an energy-efficient building concept, residents’ behaviors are often a source of excessive consumption. The real-time display offered by eSMART to residents raises awareness of the impact of their energy consumption and encourages the reduction of energy waste. The eSMART solution provides residents with a standard household consumption reference and encourages behavioral changes through simple tools (reducing heating when absent for an extended period, displaying current consumption, etc.) for everyone’s daily consumption behavior. Pension funds and investors are able to conduct energy analyses of their real estate portfolios and meet their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) commitments.

One can only improve what one measures. Based on this maxim, we have developed an intuitive solution to enable residents to reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint.

The team in Romania is made up of Camelia Bondici, responsible for managing marketing and relations with designers and architects, guiding them towards the use of eSMART products; Rares Pop (Head of Sales – Romania) and another colleague who handle sales and negotiations, not forgetting the “smooth” implementation of eSMART solutions, for which vrares2isites to building sites are carried out regularly.

In April 2023, they completed eSMART commissioning in northwest Romania’s first intelligent residential building project, the “Herculane Residence” in the city of Cluj-Napoca. “We’re very proud of this residential building because its realization required our teamwork and proved that our business model could be scaled up (designers, general contractor, developer, eSMART team).

As part of the “Herculane Residence” project, a great deal of added value was provided by David Thielman, who enabled us to deliver a professional way of commissioning a “Smart Home” project. Through our perseverance and dedication, we aim to satisfy people’s taste for top-of-the-range equipment,” says Rares Pop, Sales & Technical Manager.

Romanian “smart home” market – apartments, villas :
By 2022, the “smart home” market has been estimated at around 30 million euros. Growth is estimated at a minimum of 30% per year over the following 3 to 5 years.
A survey of 2,825 Romanians in 2022 showed the following trends:
60% of Romanians are already familiar with the “Smart Home” concept;
71% of Romanians intend to buy a smart device for their home in the next 6 to 12 months; they would focus on purchasing smart systems in the security and access category: video intercom, locking systems, flood and fire alarms.
Intelligent lighting and blinds top Romanians’ preferences, followed by air conditioning (underfloor heating and air conditioning) with intelligent thermostats, energy management and sound ;
66% of Romanians would turn to a specialized company to install a “Smart Home” system;
16% of Romanians would invest more than 1,500 euros in a complete Smart Home system.
